Personal Jurisidction: Traditional basis of jurisidiction. Pennoyer v. Neff - A State is all powerful within its boundries.

The traditional ways of asserting jurisdiction are presence in the forum state, domiciled, consent, long arms statutes with minimum contacts (where the partie has availed himself of the benefits and protections in such a ways as to not upset notions of traditional notions of fair play and substantial justice.

In Rem & Quasi in Rem Jurisdiction: When property is located in a state the state has jurisidction over the property.

Subject matter Jurisdiction: In additon to having a personal jurisdiction over the individual or entity, the court has to have subject matter jurisidiction over the subject matter. Under the federal system, federal subject matter jurisdiction or diversity (including statutory minimum of $75,000.00) jurisdiction is required.

Supplemental Jurisdiction: Ancillary Jurisdiction & Pendent Jurisidction

Removal: Removal from state court to federal court. The basis for removal from state court to federal court is if the federal court would have had original jurisdiction. (e.g. Fedeal question jurisidiction or diversity jurisdiction.
